Ladd’s Addition Gardens

1996 SE Ladd Ave. and surrounding area

Located in Portland’s oldest planned neighborhood and less than 2 miles from downtown, the center circle features camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas, and a lawn area while the 4 diamond-shaped rose gardens were designed to create a stained-glass effect. Today the park features over 3,000 roses of sixty varieties that were popular in the early 20th century. It was established by Portland Park Superintendent Emanuel Mische in the style of Frederick Olmstead.

The rose gardens are often used for intimate weddings while the central circle is the site of frequent picnics, bluegrass concerts, and Easter egg hunts.

Must See Highlights: Stand in the middle of the central circle to see four rose gardens at once. The gardens are located at the four compass points. The central garden serves as the “hub” of a wheel, streets fanning out like spokes.

Admission Details: Free. Limited ADA access.
